Educational Advocacy

Advocacy services may include:

Coaching and Training
  • Understand the law and their child's legal rights

  • Assist in communications with school personnel and providers

  • Access to resources and support services

  • Transition planning

  • Parent Training/Webinars

Paperwork/Evaluation/Data Review
  • Assist in determining needed records

  • Assist in obtaining educational records

  • Interpretation of Special Education and 504 paperwork

  • Provide guidance with additional needed evaluations and services

  • Assist with looking at the individual strengths and needs using all data, including related services, outside evaluations, parent input, and student input.

Meeting Preparation
  • Assist families with preparing for meetings, including ARD and Section 504 Meetings

  • Review/explanation of ARD/504 Drafts

  • Review/explanation of new evaluations

  • Provide guidance on accommodations, services, and other needs

  • Preparation of document/letter of parent concerns, questions, and requests for ARD/504 Committee based on data and law

  • Guidance on appropriate accommodations and services

Meeting Attendance

Attend ARD/504 Meetings in person or virtually to assist in:

  • Positive collaboration in which the parent/student is actively participating

  • Appropriate services and accommodations

  • Federal and state mandates/guidelines are followed

  • Documentation of ARD Committee decisions

  • Support and guidance to ensure understanding of the meeting decisions
